The House Whisperer home inspectors will look for tell-tale signs during an inspection of a crawlspace.
In a dark and muddy Antioch crawlspace, the inspector spotted 6” high silt marks on several of the concrete support piers and on the stemwall foundation.
Silt
marks are left behind when water rises and recedes in a crawlspace.
Excessive moisture and standing water under a house can
lead to corrosion of metal parts and water intrusion into heating and
cooling ducts can lead to health issues inside the house.
Wet crawl spaces are sources of high humidity, which leads to surface condensation, mildew and fungi, musty odors, and an unhealthful environment.
